Could 2009 be a worse year then 2008? It depends on what you’re talking about. In total, 56% of 18 respondents expect technology spending in 2009 to be far less then what spending was this year.

And the president of MORTECH Jeff Lebowitz, who specializes in this area, agrees with the majority of these respondents. “There isn’t a lot of experimental capital out there. I fear that innovation will suffer. That’s going to hurt vendors because that’s what they live on.” So, how far down will spending truly be next year?

An ESIGN Reunion

As I looked around the Electronic Signature and Records Association (ESRA) conference last week in Washington, D.C. it reminded me a little of a 10-year high school reunion. After all, we are close to a decade into the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA) and soon to be nine years into ESIGN. Back then, e-signatures had just earned their diploma and were ready to be pushed off into the adult world. Here we stand reunited almost a decade later. Where has the time gone? And what do we have to show for ourselves?

Just like the best high school clique, the cast of characters has pretty much remained the same but the years have defined and matured each of these ESIGN executives. Despite lots of champagne popping in 2000 with the ESIGN legislation, the industry crawled along for the first half of the decade. Many an attorney, e-commerce manager and e-sign vendor endured numerous false starts, reorganizations and business model changes in the early years. I liken this to the tumultuous (but typically fun) college years where we all struggled to plan our future and our ultimate success.

Partnership to Help Close Loans Faster

Using online forms has become one of the most omnipresent ways to facilitate transactions in the mortgage industry. As a means of delivering an easier and more secure online contract services and signing capabilities to real estate professionals, DocuSign, a provider of software services for electronic signature and online contract execution, and Realfast, a provider of online contract forms for the real estate industry, have formed a joint partnership.

Under the partnership terms, Realfast is integrating DocuSign’s suite of application integration services, DocuSign Connect, into its online contract service. In doing this, Realfast is providing its real estate customers with a more convenient, secure and efficient way to deliver, populate, and sign legally binding real estate documents.
